MacBook Pro could replace the notch with Dynamic Island this month

The MacBook Pro’s familiar display notch could disappear before the end of the month, with Apple’s redesigned high-end models expected to replace it with a Dynamic Island interface.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing new MacBook Pro models for a launch on or around October 27, with the machines set to feature the Dynamic Island on-screen interface already familiar to iPhone users.
The change would bring an end to the wide display notch used on the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro since their 2021 redesign, giving the front of Apple’s high-end notebook a noticeably different appearance.
Dynamic Island is coming to the MacBook Pro
Previous reporting has pointed to Apple replacing the current notch with a smaller Dynamic Island-style display cutout as part of the redesign. Bloomberg’s latest report now specifically says the new machines will feature the Dynamic Island interface, bringing one of the iPhone’s most recognizable display features to the Mac.
The Apple Post reported earlier this year that Apple was preparing an iPhone-style Dynamic Island for a future OLED MacBook Pro, with the redesigned display expected to move away from the large rectangular notch used today.
How closely the Mac implementation will mirror Dynamic Island on the iPhone remains to be seen, but there are signs Apple is preparing macOS for the new hardware. Changes discovered in macOS 27.2 have added further clues pointing to Apple’s touchscreen MacBook Pro, as the company adapts parts of the interface for direct touch input.
Dynamic Island will be only one part of a much larger MacBook Pro overhaul. The redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch machines are also expected to introduce OLED displays, touchscreen support and a lighter design, with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips reportedly powering the new models.
Not every new MacBook Pro is expected to lose the notch
Apple is also reportedly preparing a separate entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip for the same late-October product launch, but that machine is expected to retain the existing MacBook Pro design.
That could leave Apple selling two visually distinct generations of MacBook Pro at the same time: a familiar M6 model with the current display design and higher-end OLED models with touchscreens and Dynamic Island.
With the redesigned machines now reportedly set to debut on or around October 27, the MacBook Pro notch could be only weeks away from becoming a feature of Apple’s previous-generation design.
